National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP) of Cameroon: 2007 – 2010

The Plan Stratégique National de Lutte contre le Paludisme (PSNLP) au Cameroun 2007–2010 four year plan has the following framework.

Vision: By 2015, the Millennium Development Goals regarding malaria will be achieved. Malaria will no longer be a major cause of mortality. It will no longer hinder economic and social development or growth anywhere in the world (Global Strategic Plan RBM 2005–2015).

Overall Objective: To reduce malaria-related morbidity and mortality by 50%, particularly among at-risk populations, by 2010.

Specific Objectives: By 2010:-

1. 80% of the population will have access to appropriate malaria treatment;
2. 80% of pregnant women will have access to malaria prevention;
3. 80% of the at-risk population will have access to effective vector control measures, notably insecticide-treated nets and indoor residual spraying;
4. 80% of health districts with epidemic potential will benefit from an adequate response.

Expected Results:

1. 80% of the population has access to appropriate malaria treatment;
2. 80% of pregnant women have access to malaria prevention;
3. 80% of the population has access to effective vector control measures;
4. 80% of health districts with epidemic potential have benefited from an adequate response.
