Establishment of drug development and commercial manufacturing of malaria vaccine

Objectives

This project aims to develop NPC-SE36, which is a preventive vaccine using the recombinant SE36 protein of SERA5 protein, which has almost no genetic polymorphism in Plasmodium falciparum, as an antigen.

Rationale and Abstract

NPC-SE36 has obtained regulatory approval for use in developing countries such as Africa as an effective preventive measure against Plasmodium falciparum vaccine, which is one of the three major infectious diseases in the world, with the aim of contributing to global health. The team is proceeding with development with the aim of acquiring two indications for “travelers.” So far, safety in humans has been confirmed, and data on protective effects exceeding 70% have been obtained, and establishment of commercial manufacturing and clinical trials are being planned and implemented for practical use.
