National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP) of Nigeria: 2014-2020

The National Malaria Strategic Plan (20 14- 2020) will ensure transition from malaria control to malaria elimination in Nigeria. The nation faces a promising future with regard to the reduction of the ill-health and death caused by malaria leading eventually to a complete elimination of malaria. In consonance with this the Federal Executive Council has approved there-designation of the National Malaria Control Programme as National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP).

Vision: to have a MALARIA FREE NIGERIA.

Mission: to provide equitable, comprehensive, cost effective, efficient and quality malaria control services ensuring  transparency, accountability, client satisfaction, community ownership and partnership.

Goal: to reduce malaria burden to pre-elimination levels and bring malaria-related mortality to zero.

Objectives:

1. To ensure at least 80% of targeted population utilizes appropriate preventive measures by 2020.
2. To test all care-seeking persons with suspected malaria using RDT or microscopy by 2020.
3. To treat all individuals with confirmed malaria seen in private or public facilities with effective anti-malarial drug by 2020.
4. To provide adequate information to all Nigerians such that at least 80% of the populace habitually takes appropriate malaria preventive aml treatment measures as necessary by 2020.
5. To ensure the timely availability of appropriate antimalarial medicines and commodities required for prevention and treatment of malaria in Nigeria wherever they are needed by 2018.
6. At least 80% of health facilities in all LGAs report routinely on malaria by 2020.
7. To strengthen governance and coordination of all stakeholders for effective program implementation towards an “A” rating by 2018 on a standardized scorecard.
