National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP) of Colombia: 2025 – 2031

 The Plan nacional de eliminación de malaria por P. falciparum, Colombia 2025-2031 entails aligning the health outcome targets defined in the 2022–2031 Ten-Year Public Health Plan (El Plan Decenal de Salud Pública – PDSP): i) by 2031, a 40% reduction in malaria deaths; ii) by 2031, 15% of malaria-endemic municipalities move from risk category 4 to 3; and iii) by 2031, 25% of malaria-endemic municipalities move from risk category 5 to 4.

1. General objective: To establish actions for eliminating P. falciparum malaria transmission in Colombia from 2025 to 2031, contributing to health equity in alignment with national policies, the global strategic vision, and international recommendations.
2. Specific objectives:

• To establish operational lines of action for eliminating P. falciparum malaria transmission, aligned with the PDSP 2022–2031 framework.
• To establish criteria for the subnational verification of P. falciparum malaria elimination at the municipal level, in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations.
• To define key activities to accelerate local efforts toward eliminating P. falciparum malaria transmission at local, regional, and national levels, in light of universal best practices and global technical recommendations.
• To define the territories prioritized for achieving certification of P. falciparum malaria transmission elimination.
• To select the interventions and activities to be prioritized for P. falciparum malaria elimination in Colombia, considering their viability and feasibility.
• To identify inter-programmatic actions that facilitate the execution of the proposed measures.
• To manage the financial, human, logistical, and operational resources required for the implementation and sustainability of the proposed activities.
