National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP) of Venezuela: 2023 – 2027

The Plan Estratégico Nacional de Eliminación de Malaria (PENM) 2023-2027 outlines Venezuela’s aim to eliminate indigenous malaria transmission by 2035. Guided by this national vision, the National Malaria Program (PNM) seeks to halve malaria mortality by 2025 and reduce it by 95% by 2030, while also reducing the disease burden by 40% by 2025 and by 90% by 2030, relative to 2020 levels.

Vision: To achieve the elimination of indigenous malaria transmission nationwide by the year 2035, through the strengthening of local capacities and inter-institutional, multisectoral, and intercultural coordination.

Mission: To organize the local response to malaria through competent personnel and the constant availability of critical supplies, fostering community self-management with the aim of guaranteeing the population’s right to health as a fundamental element of quality of life.

The PENM addresses four components of the malaria response:

1. Detection, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Investigation (DTI);
2. Comprehensive Surveillance (epidemiological, entomological, and parasitological);
3. Vector Control; and
4. Cross-cutting Elements.
