National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP) of Afghanistan: 2018 – 2022

The goal of the National Malaria Strategic Plan “from Malaria Control to Elimination” 2018-2022 in Afghanistan (NMSP 2018-2022) is to ensure that Afghanistan is on track to eliminate malaria by 2030 – contributing towards country development and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The plan’s objectives are directed at;

1. reducing the reported malaria incidence by 73% at the national level compared with 2016;
2. Interrupting indigenous transmission of malaria, specifically Pf, in 23 Provinces (Badghis, Baghlan, Farah, Ghor, Hirat, Jawzjan, Kabul, Kunduz, Nimroz, Parwan, Samangan, Balkh, Bamyan, Dykundi, Kapisa, Panjsher, Sar-e-Pul, Takhar, Urozgan, Badakhshan, Faryab, Logar & Zabul) by 2022; and
3. preventing the re-establishment of local malaria transmission due to importation in all areas where it has been eliminated.
