Plasmodium vivax malaria incidence in infants, children and adults in Northwestern Peru
Objectives
1. To determine the incidence of symptomatic malaria infection in different cohorts of infants, children and adults
2. To estimate the proportion of febrile malaria episodes in each of the cohorts
3. To assess the malaria risk factors in these cohorts, including nutritional status, immunological status and prevalence of intestinal parasites
In the context of this observational study, a dramatic decrease was seen on the number of malaria cases, from 2720 cases reported in the Bellavista-Sullana community in the year 2009 to only 3 cases reported in the year 2014. This is an interesting context to further study the drivers of this decrease in the number of malaria cases.
