Design and development of ellagic acid derivatives for oral use in treatment of malaria
Objectives
This project aims to develop a (natural of hemisynthetic) derivative of ellagic acid which could be used orally.
Rationale and Abstract
Malaria is responsible for 600,000 deaths each year. Ellagic acid, a natural compound present in pomegranate, is highly active intraperitoneally against malaria (more active than quinine).
