Development of analogs of ellagic acid for oral use in treatment of malaria
Objectives
This project aims to develop a derivative of ellagic acid which could be used orally.
Rationale and Abstract
Malaria is responsible for 600,000 deaths each year. Ellagic acid, a natural compound present in pomegranate, is highly active intraperitoneally against malaria (more active than quinine). Natural sources will be investigated and hemisynthesis will be implemented.
