Countries: Congo
Published: 01/03/2023
Through the Plan Stratégique National (PSN) de lutte Contre le Paludisme 2023-2027, Congo now has a new framework that establishes objectives, defines strategic directions, outlines implementation and monitoring/evaluation procedures, and identifies the human, material, and financial resources required for the fight against malaria.
Vision: The Congo aspires to be a country where malaria no longer acts as a barrier to socioeconomic development, achieved through a significant reduction in malaria transmission and effective case management, supported by a multisectoral partnership and the participation of communities.
Mission: The mission of the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) is to develop and implement strategies that ensure universal access to the most effective malaria control interventions for all inhabitants of the Congo at an affordable cost, thereby contributing to the reduction of socioeconomic losses attributable to this endemic disease. The guiding principles underpinning action in this area are:
- Strong national leadership;
- Good governance;
- An inclusive and effective partnership;
- Integration and decentralization of interventions;
- Universal coverage;
- Equity and efficiency in the implementation of interventions.
Goal: The goal of this plan is to contribute to improving the health status of the Congolese population by reducing the human and socio-economic burden caused by malaria.
General objective: To reduce malaria-related proportional morbidity and mortality.
Specific objectives: By the end of 2027:
- Reduce malaria-related morbidity in the general population by 78% (from 54% to 10.5%) compared to 2015 data;
- Reduce malaria-related mortality by 78% (from 41% to 9.02%) compared to 2015 data;
- Strengthen epidemiological and entomological surveillance;
- Strengthen the managerial capacities of the National Malaria Control Program (PNLP).
