National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP) of Senegal: 2016 – 2020

This Plan Stratégique National de Lutte contre le Paludisme (PSNLP) au Sénégal 2016 – 2020, which helps give substance to the health policy vision within the framework of the Emerging Senegal Plan, reaffirms Senegal’s ambition to eliminate malaria and reduce malaria-related mortality to near-zero levels by tailoring control interventions to diverse epidemiological settings and adopting innovative, high-impact interventions.

Vision: Senegal’s 2016–2020 strategic plan for malaria control is firmly committed to accelerating malaria control efforts with a view to pre-elimination; hence its vision: “An emerging, malaria-free Senegal for sustainable development.”

Mission:  To ensure universal access to the most effective malaria promotion, prevention, and treatment interventions at an affordable cost for the entire Senegalese population.

Strategic directions:

• Target interventions based on epidemiological characteristics
• Promote universal access to the full range of interventions
• Strengthen the community-based approach
• Improve coordination and management capacities
• Strengthen partnerships, particularly with the private sector
• Develop a multisectoral approach
• Contribute to the sustainable strengthening of the health system
