The National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP) 2026–2030, provides comprehensive technical guidance to stakeholders and development partners for a five-year period from 2026 to 2030. The strategic plan builds on the achievements and lessons learned from the implementation of the 2021–2025 National Malaria Strategic Plan, with a focus on ensuring universal access to prompt malaria diagnosis and treatment, accelerating malaria burden reduction in high- and moderate burden settings, and safeguarding gains achieved in low- and very low-burden areas.
Vision: “Tanzania becomes a society free from malaria.”
Mission: Ensure all people in Tanzania have equitable and gender responsive access to sustainable, quality, effective, safe and affordable malaria preventive and curative services through efficient collaborative partnership and community ownership
Goals:
- Reduce malaria transmission measured by parasite prevalence in children under the age of five from 5.7% in 2025 to 1.4% in 2030;
- Reduce malaria mortality from 1.9 deaths per 100,000 population in 2025 to 1.1 deaths per 100,000 population by 2030;
- Reduce malaria case incidence from 43 cases per 1,000 population in 2025 to 15 cases per 1,000 population by 2030;
- Increase the proportion of councils with very low malaria transmission from 29% in 2025 to 43% by 2030.
Strategic objectives:
- To reduce malaria parasite transmission by accelerating the implementation of targeted, evidence-based, and integrated malaria prevention interventions;
- To prevent malaria-related mortality through universal access to appropriate malaria diagnosis and effective treatment;
- To provide timely, reliable, and actionable malaria information to support evidence-based decision-making across different transmission settings and ensure that available resources are utilized in the most cost-effective manner;
- To ensure timely availability of safe, efficacious, and quality-assured malaria commodities and supplies at all service delivery points;
- To strengthen an enabling environment that empowers individuals and communities at risk of malaria to consistently protect themselves and their families, while promoting timely care-seeking and appropriate utilization of malaria services; and
- To strengthen efficient and effective implementation of malaria interventions through accountable leadership, coordination, and strategic partnerships.
