The Plan to prevent the reintroduction of malaria in Cabo Verde (Plano de prevenção da reintrodução do paludismo em Cabo Verde) 2023 – 2025 has as overall objective to prevent the reintroduction of local malaria transmission in the country.

Vision: To maintain Cabo Verde as a malaria-free country, ensuring zero indigenous cases and leveraging competitive advantages for tourism development.

Mission: In the context of a malaria-free country, the National Program’s mission is to ensure the prevention of malaria reintroduction by providing populations with access to timely epidemiological and entomological surveillance and effective vector control, while maintaining community empowerment in the fight against malaria and fostering a research environment that generates evidence to support decision-making.

Principles and Values: The Plan for the Prevention of Malaria Reintroduction (2023–2025) is a priority of the National Health Policy, aligned with SDG Goal 3, with a focus on:

  • Respect for the cultural identity of communities and the rights of service providers;
  • Equitable access to quality care;
  • Accountability;
  • The right of populations to information and social justice;
  • Consideration of gender;
  • Results-based management;
  • Improving health governance;
  • Decentralization of activities;
  • Community involvement;
  • Complementarity and synergy.
