National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP) of Myanmar: 2010 – 2016
Countries: Myanmar
Published: 01/12/2014
Note: A more recent NMSP is available. View it here (link).
This extended National Strategic Plan (NSP) 2010–2016 resulted from a consensus reached during the Technical and Strategy Group (TSG) meeting held in February 2014, where key stakeholders agreed to extend the original National Strategic Plan (2010–2015) by one year. The National Malaria Control Programme of Myanmar and its partners therefore revised the plan with minor changes to cover 2016 while preparing the subsequent five-year National Strategic Plan.
Goal: The Goal of malaria control in Myanmar is to reduce malaria morbidity and mortality by at least 60 per cent by 2016 (baseline: 2007 data), and contribute towards socio-economic development and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Objectives: Objectives are set according to the National Malaria Control Strategies laid down after adopting the Global Malaria Control Strategies, i.e.;
- Providing information, education & communication regarding malaria prevention and control up to the grass-root level of the community
- Promoting personal protective measures and/or introducing environmental measures as principle methods and application of chemical and biological methods in selected areas depending on local epidemiological condition and available resources
- Prevention, early detection and containment of epidemics
- Provision of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment
- Promote capacity building and programme management of malaria control programme (human, financial and technical)
- Strengthen the partnership by means of intra- and inter-sectoral cooperation and collaboration with public sector, private sector, local & international NGOs, UN agencies and neighboring countries
- Intensify community participation, involvement and empowerment
- Promote basic and applied field research
This is the mid-term revised and extended version of the NSP 2010–2015, updated to cover 2016.
