Construction of a new “delayed death” model by splitting lipid convertase

Objectives

The purpose of this research project is to construct a new model for the occurrence of “delayed death” caused by a deficiency in lipid conversion enzymes expressed at the schizont stage.

Principal Investigators / Focal Persons

Takahiro Ishizaki

Rationale and Abstract

Known “delayed death” is known to be caused by molecular defects expressed in the trophozoite stage of the parasite. This study will clarify whether “delayed death” caused by a deficiency in lipid conversion enzymes at the schizont stage is caused by the same mechanism as the existing model or an unknown mechanism. Through this study, the researchers aim to deepen their understanding of the molecular mechanism that causes “delayed death” in malaria parasites and to gain further insight into the parasite’s parasitism and proliferation mechanisms.
