Universal amazonas – effects of future climate scenarios on the life cycle and infectiveness of anopheles aquasalis (diptera: culicidae) to Plasmodium vivax

The present work aims to understand the behavior of the vector and the etiological agent in the face of climate change, predicted by climate scenarios using three scenarios provided by the IPCC – AR5 (Strict Mitigation Scenario-RCP2.6, Intermediate Scenarios-RCP4.5 and Scenario with very high RCP8.5 emissions), a current scenario (based on variations that will follow in real time the external natural conditions, collected by sensors specially installed in the forest) and a comparative environment where species of Anopheles aquasalis remain in a condition of colonization and whose aspects of Plasmodium-vector interaction are reported in the literature.

Rationale and Abstract

This project will go ahead in two different stages. In the first phase the climatic effect on the reproductive fitness and longevity of ten generations of Anopheles aquasalis will be analyzed in different simulated climatic conditions (scenarios RCP 2.6, RCP4.5, RCP8.5, control and insectary conditions). Next, the effect of climatic differences on An. aquasalis with Plasmodium vivax will be investigated also analyzing the expression of immune genes associated with the response to the parasite in different climatic conditions after 5 and 10 days of infection compared with the conditions of creation in the laboratory.
