Alternative TES: Efficacy and safety of artesunate – amodiaquine and dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine for the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria in mainland Tanzania

Objectives

This project aims:

1. To measure the clinical and parasitological efficacy of ASAQ and DP in patients aged 6 months to 10 years, suffering from uncomplicated falciparum malaria by determining the proportion with early treatment failure, late clinical failure, late parasitological failure or adequate clinical and parasitological response as indicators of efficacy.
2. To differentiate recrudescence from new infection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis.
3. To evaluate the incidence and severity of adverse events.
