Establishment of a large-scale biosynthetic method for the antimalarial compound dihydrolucilactaene
Objectives
Th main goal of this study is to establish a method for mass production of dihydrorsilactaene in order to develop it as a new antimalarial drug.
Malaria is a serious infectious disease that kills approximately 600,000 people annually. Malaria parasites that are resistant to existing antimalarial drugs have appeared, and the development of new antimalarial drugs is urgently needed worldwide. In recent years, a compound called dihydrorsilactaene, which exhibits strong antimalarial activity, was discovered in the culture medium of the Fusarium sp. strain RK97-94.
