Establishment of national surveillance technology to detect malaria epidemic clusters

Objectives

*Original title and abstract were machine translated from Japanese.

To establish a serological method to detect malaria epidemic clusters using high-quality malaria antigens synthesized in a wheat cell-free system.

Ehime University, Japan

Rationale and Abstract

Malaria epidemics are caused by asymptomatic Plasmodium-infected individuals. This fiscal year, the research team will apply for ethics with the cooperation of the Ghana Research Center and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), and will be able to obtain local samples. A total of 900 protein libraries will be created using the wheat cell-free system for the measurement of blood samples. Using cultured Plasmodium falciparum parasites, samples with various pseudo gametocyte densities are prepared, and a system for measuring gametocyte-specific mRNA by RT-qPCR is established. MAGPIX enables multiplex antibody titer measurement at Ghana base.
