Volunteer as MESA Correspondent for the MESA Webinars and get your registration for ASTMH annual meeting!

Are you interested in malaria research? Would you like to improve your writing skills? And, last but not least, would you like to attend the ASTMH annual meeting for free? Here is your opportunity: volunteer as MESA Correspondent to report from the last four sessions of the MESA Webinars: Science for Malaria Impact!

What do you have to do?

We are seeking volunteers as MESA Correspondents to report from the September, October, November, and December sessions of the MESA Webinars. Each webinar lasts one hour and features two speakers presenting for 15 minutes each.

With the help of some guidelines shared in advance, the MESA Correspondents summarize the contents of each webinar in a one-page report. The reports are reviewed by recognized senior malaria editors and afterwards they are published and disseminated through the MESA channels. 

On this occasion, the MESA Correspondents covering the last four sessions of the MESA Webinars will be able to attend the  2021 ASTMH Annual Meeting in exchange.

• MESA Webinar 1 – Listening to the Community: Malaria from a Health System and Equity Perspective
• MESA Webinar 2 – New approaches to improve malaria mosquito surveillance and control
• MESA Webinar 3 – Integrating Genomics into the Malaria Interventions Toolbox

What will you get?

• Free-registration to the virtual annual meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH), which will take place on November 17-21.
• Certificate of participation in the MESA Correspondents program, highlighting the supervision at the hands of a senior malaria editor.
• Priority when offering new opportunities to collaborate with MESA.
• Visibility. The reports are disseminated through multiple channels: MESA website, social media, MESA newsletter and Malaria World newsletter, among others.

How to apply?

The application to become a MESA Correspondent for the MESA Webinars: Science for Malaria Impact, consists of:

• Curriculum vitae
• Motivation statement (100-word limit) indicating which areas of malaria you have knowledge of.
• Synopsis of one of these videos (200-word limit)
  • Investigating the magnitude and drivers of residual malaria transmission in Zanzibar, speaker: Khamis Haji, Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Program, Tanzania link
  • Protective efficacy of a spatial repellent against malaria infections in children: recent evidence from a clinical trial in Indonesia, speaker: Din Syafruddin, Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, Indonesia, link
  • Tracking the local and regional spread of Plasmodium falciparum in low transmission settings of Africa, link
  • Reactive case detection with targeted mass drug administration: Interrupting malaria transmission and achieving elimination beyond intervention areas in northwestern Peru, link

The opportunity to be a correspondent is open to everyone, and researchers or students from malaria-endemic areas are highly encouraged to apply.
