NIHR Call for Applications: Global Health Research Professorship

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) opens the call  for applications for its Global Health Research Professorship, a five-year award that enables outstanding academics to lead health and care research at a professorial level.

The NIHR Research Professorships fund leaders in the early part of their careers to lead research and strengthen health, public health, and care research leadership at the highest academic levels. Successful awardees have described the award as transformational within their discipline and for their career.

Eligibility: 

We award Research Professorships through a system of nomination. To be eligible for nomination, you must:

  • be based in England
  • be nominated by a Higher Education Institution (HEI), NHS organisation, or other provider of health, public health or care services based in England
  • have a HEI based in England as a contracting or partner organisation
  • be a health, public health, social care researcher or methodologist
  • have an outstanding research record of clinical and applied health and care research
  • have demonstrated effective translation of research for improved health and care 

Funding details:

  • NIHR Research Professorships are 5-year appointments, with funding of up to £2 million.
  • The award will include:
    • three support posts
    • research running costs
    • a travel fund
    • access to the NIHR Future Focused Leadership Programme
    • the opportunity to request a sabbatical
    • your basic salary costs (plus indirect costs for the contracting organisation, if applicable)
