LSHTM-RAFT roadmap webinar: research results to bolster resilience against future mosquito-borne disease threats

The RAFT (Resilience Against Future Threats through Vector Control) research consortium would like to invite you to their final roadmap webinar of the series showcasing RAFT research findings: Combining experimental huts and genetics to inform long-lasting insecticidal net product choice.

Date: 17th of March 2026

Time: 10.00  GMT (UTC)

Location: online

How can NMCPs identify which LLIN product will be most cost-effective in a specific target province? This question is important, because insecticide resistance in the malaria vector mosquitoes is a major problem everywhere in Africa, and it is complex, because the resistance itself is complex:  the specific genes conferring resistance vary widely, not only between vector species but also between local populations of each species.
RAFT compared a range of LLINs in conventional experimental hut trials in Tanzania, Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon. We scored the resistance genes present in the mosquitoes sampled from the experimental huts, using advanced genetic methods. The results confirmed that this approach produces a great deal of additional information on the effect of specific resistance genes, and this would be useful information in making procurement decisions for other distant provinces.
