Presenter: Bernadette Kutima, Research Officer, KEMRI Wellcome Trust.

Bernadette Kutima is a Research Officer at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme. Her current work focuses on mosquito-borne viruses like Rift Valley fever, Chikungunya, and Dengue, which continue to cause outbreaks across Kenya. Despite their impact, these infections remain under researched something Bernadette and her team are working to change by studying how widespread these infections are and helping to guide the development of tools like vaccines and diagnostics that can be used in real world settings. Her core interest lies in understanding how the immune system responds to viral infections, and how vaccines can be designed to provide stronger and longer-lasting protection. Bernadette is passionate about translating science into better health outcomes, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
Looking ahead, she aims to pursue further research training and continue contributing to global health solutions while also advocating for equitable access to vaccines and fostering inclusive, community driven scientific progress.
