Harvard University Call for Application: Harvard Bell Fellowships

The Harvard Center for Population and Development StudiesĀ  is calling for applications for its Harvard Bell Fellowships, aiming to provide opportunities for research and leadership training in a two-year, non-degree program for researchers and practitioners in the field of population and development.

Harvard Bell Fellows examine a broad range of critical issues in the field of population and development studies from multidisciplinary perspectives. A wide range of perspectives will enhance the Fellows’ experiences and broaden the community life at the Center. This year we welcome applications from scholars working in the following areas:

  • Immigration and migration
  • Geospatial and multilevel modeling with a focus on heterogeneity
  • Youth, families, and social mobility
  • Aging societies

The program is open toĀ both U.S.Ā andĀ internationalĀ scholars and is supported through sourcesĀ other than federal funding.

Funding information:

  • TheĀ David E. Bell FellowshipĀ is a two-year, residential postdoctoral fellowship program.
  • HCPDS Postdoctoral Fellows’ salaries for 2026–2028 will beĀ $75,000,Ā plus fringe benefits including subsidized health insurance. Relocation funds of up toĀ $4,000Ā are also provided by the program to be used for flight to Harvard and the shipment of personal items. The program followsĀ Harvard’s policiesĀ with regard to reimbursing relocation expenses.
  • HCPDS Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to live locally and complete the program on-site.Ā  If a Fellow desires to be off-site for longer than two weeks, it must be discussed with the Center Director in advance.
  • Upon arrival, fellows will be allotted a Research/Travel/Computer fund ofĀ $11,000Ā to be used over the two years. These monies can be spent on: research assistance (personnel); purchasing datasets, software, and materials; membership dues; publication fees; and travel to conferences and meetings.
