GAVI Request for Proposal: Malaria Vaccine Programme Learning Agenda

The GAVI Vaccine Alliance announces a new request for proposals on Malaria Vaccine Programme Learning Agenda.

As part of the malaria vaccine learning agenda, GAVI is commissioning a set of implementation research projects to generate evidence and answer questions that have a direct bearing on the planning and implementation of malaria vaccines as an integrated element of national and subnational immunization and malaria control programmes.

The overarching objective is to generate evidence that can inform the planning and implementation of vaccines, to optimize their impact in the context of strengthened routine immunization, malaria prevention and control, and primary health care programmes. Specifically, to respond to current evidence needs , Gavi is seeking (a) provider(s) to:

  1. Identify approaches and interventions to increase the uptake of malaria vaccine and other health interventions during routine visit timepoints/ touchpoints.
  2. Conduct a comparative assessment on the feasibility and effectiveness of alternative schedules and delivery strategies of malaria vaccines in areas of highly seasonal malaria transmission.

Eligibility:

  • Bidders should conduct their research in malaria-endemic country(ies) in sub-Saharan Africa where the introduction of the malaria vaccine and the deployment of other vaccines and malaria control interventions present real-life settings where answers to the research questions can be explored.
  • The ideal research partner(s) should be familiar with the applicable countries’ immunisation landscape as well as the health system and primary health care service structure in the country. They should have an established presence/office(s) in the proposed countries.
  • The research work will need to be undertaken in accordance with these principles.
    •  Strong engagement of and collaboration with government and other key stakeholders.
    • Inclusion of/submissions from local civil society organizations, academic and/or research partners close to the communities where the implementation research is taking place.
    • Ethical, quality implementation research with appropriate methodology.
