2024 WDCM Workshop and Training Courses on Pathogen Resources Preservation and Genome Data Sharing
The World Data Centre for Microorganisms (WDCM) organizes workshop and training courses on Pathogen Resources Preservation and Genome Data Sharing.
Biobanks are essential infrastructure for public health surveillance. It enables systematic and timely access to quality pathogenic biological materials. Genetic sequence data (GSD) within the pathogens contribute to global health surveillance to provide evidence-based risk assessment strategy and facilitate the development of innovative drugs and vaccines. Genomic information has become essential information to share during public health emergencies. The World Health Organization (WHO) has initiated a global initiative to establish a framework and platform for member states to increase their local capacity to cope with such a trend. However, establishing such infrastructure in developing countries presents a lot of challenges and there is a lack of uniform global standards on how samples should be handled, and disparities between regions have presented challenges for such implementations.
Therefore, workshop and training courses specializing in developing countries focusing on the capacities of pathogen resources preservation and genome data sharing will facilitate the integration of global health in the context of applying genomic data in global health surveillance.
