7th RAFT webinar on Aedes bionomics in an urbanising world and the need for global response to rising arbovirus threat

The Resilience Against Future Threats (RAFT) through Vector Control hub research consortium would like to invite you to their 7th online webinar of the TechTalk series on Emerging threats in a changing world: Aedes bionomics in an urbanising world and the need for global response to rising arbovirus threat.

Date: November 25, 2025

Time: 11 am UK time (UTC)

Mosquito-borne arboviruses like dengue and chikungunya are steadily increasing on a global scale, and will continue to do so as urbanisation, global warming, and increased international mobility favour the spread and increase of the Aedes vector mosquitoes. Obscured by the greater priority of malaria, arboviruses nevertheless already exceed the number of annual malaria infections. In this webinar we learn about the close links between Aedes biology and human habitations, and the need for multi-sectoral and global coordination to curb the unabating spread of these diseases. Our panel of experts from Africa, Asia and the World Health Organization will share insights and respond to audience questions.

Presentations:

  • Bionomics of Aedes mosquitoes in Cameroon – Dr Basile Kamgang, Centre for Research in Infectious Disease (CRID), Cameroon
  • Bionomics of Aedes mosquitoes in Tanzania – Dr Jackie Mosha, NIMR Mwanza, Tanzania
  • Prime breeding sites and distribution of Aedes across rural-urban gradients in Thailand  – Assis Prof Patchara Sriwichai, Mahidol University, Thailand
  • Aedes control approaches in Thailand  – Dale Olivier, PhD student, Mahidol University
  • Updates on the WHO Global Arbovirus Initiative – Dr Lauren Carrington, Technical Officer – Innovative tools and arboviruses, Global Arbovirus Initiative, WHO
