36th Residential 3-week Summer Course in Epidemiology
The European Educational Programme in Epidemiology (EEPE) joined efforts with the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), the University of Torino, the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), and the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+) to offer a 3-week Summer Course in Epidemiology.

Place: Florence, Italy
This course is a lively mixture of methodological lectures, guest lectures on special topics, and practical exercises. It provides an overview of epidemiological methods, the core concepts of epidemiological thinking, and allows students to acquire skills in the analysis of epidemiological data. Students with some basic knowledge of epidemiological and statistical methods will benefit most from the course. All students must have good working knowledge of written and spoken English.
Areas covered:
- Week 1 introduces basic epidemiological concepts and study designs, and covers the fundamentals of statistical methods in epidemiology.
- Week 2 covers study designs in-depth, introduces the common regression models in epidemiology (logistic, Cox, Poisson) and gives students the opportunity to practice the analysis of epidemiological datasets using the Stata statistical package.
- Week 3 offers a choice of modules, for example advanced topics in statistical analysis, advanced topics in epidemiology, environmental epidemiology, clinical epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, causal inference methods. Students indicate their choice of modules for the third week when registering for the course.
- Week 4: optional specialized course week (July 8 – 12). It can be attended independently from the 3-week residential course.
