Countries: Guinea-Bissau
Published: 01/02/2023
The Guinea-Bissau Plan Stratégique National (PSN) 2023 – 2027 falls within the framework of the country’s vision, “A malaria-free Guinea for sustainable socioeconomic development.” The planned interventions will enable the achievement of the Program’s mission, which is to ensure universal access to quality malaria prevention and treatment services for the entire population, in accordance with the national health policy.
The implementation of this plan will be carried out in accordance with universal principles and values, namely social justice, solidarity, equity, ethics, integrity, and quality. The same applies to the guiding principles based on good governance, a gender-sensitive approach, respect for scientific evidence, and international recommendations in the selection of malaria control interventions. The major challenge of the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) for the next five years is to move towards the pre-elimination of malaria.
The goal is to reduce malaria-related morbidity and mortality by at least 80% by the end of 2027. The objectives are as follows:
- Reduce the incidence of malaria by at least 80% compared to 2022;
- Reduce malaria-related mortality by at least 80% compared to 2022; and
- Strengthen and maintain program management capacities at all levels by the end of 2027.
This will involve, on the one hand, building on the achievements of the 2018-2023 National Malaria Control Program (NMP) and, on the other hand, identifying and implementing innovative, high-impact interventions in all areas of malaria control. To this end, strategies and interventions have been developed and planned based on malaria stratification and epidemiology.
