The 33rd edition of the masterclass hosted by Fredros Okumu from Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) and Sheila Ogoma from Clinton Health Access Initiative(CHAI) features Profs. Chris Drakeley & Teun Bousema.

In this masterclass Professors Chris Drakeley and Teun Bousema dive deep into submerged part of the Malaria iceberg. The discussion covers asymptomatic malaria infections and how they influence control and elimination efforts while highlightinng the importance of age, immunity, and infectious reservoirs in malaria epidemiology and control. The in-depth discussion and analysis features malaria reservoir characterization and measurement of transmission with a peek onto school-aged in the malaria transmission chain. Then it goes on to explore the malaria hotspots and household clusturing and the means to detect and control invisible malaria infections and hotspots. Ultimately, it touches on integrating vector control and effective case management in elimination settings and the biological threats of drugs and insecticide resistance and failing mRDTs, invasive vectors and simian malaria.
