Targeting co-endemic Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium falciparum infections for malaria elimination: insights from longitudinal studies and mathematical models

Objectives

The objective of this study is to develop a within-host model to estimate the contribution of relapses on the burden of P. vivax in endemic areas of Peru and Vietnam, and then validate it using data from treatment-time-to-infection studies (infection and genotyping data). Separate transmission models for both P. falciparum and P. vivax will be integrated in one unique model to assess potential “test and treat” interventions as malaria elimination strategies.
