Parasite and human genetic risk factors for emerging Plasmodium knowlesi (Pk) malaria
Objectives
This project aims to use samples from Plasmodium knowlesi (Pk) cases and healthy controls from previous studies in Malaysian Borneo to identify human and parasite genetic factors associated with infection and disease severity.

Rationale and Abstract
Plasmodium knowlesi (Pk) is a monkey malaria found to infect humans across Southeast Asia, and can cause severe disease and death. However the underlying ways in which Pk causes people to become sick are poorly understood.
