Malaria Genome Project – Whole-genome scans for adaptive evolution in Malawian Plasmodium falciparum isolates
Objectives
- To provide the first genome-wide map of diversity in Malawi P. falciparum clinical isolates.
- To detect the past evolutionary signatures.
- To establish a baseline of variation for future parasite population-genetics studies.
The development of methods to determine variation in parasite genetics and tracking the change in space and time may provide new insights to parasite transmission dynamics that can support transmission reduction efforts.
