Capacity strengthening in antimalarial efficacy monitoring and differential management of acute febrile illnesses: fostering a Brazil-Thailand collaboration

Objectives

This project aims to provide the opportunity of Brazilian researchers to join clinical research activities on the clinical and therapeutic management of malaria and other infectious diseases that are prevalent in both countries.

Specific objectives:

1. To transfer knowledge and technology on the clinical epidemiology and laboratory approaches used to characterize and monitor artemisinin resistant P. falciparum that can be applied in systematic monitoring in Brazil.

2. To exchange experience and methods on the measurement of anti-schizontocidal and anti-relapse efficacy of antimalarials against P. vivax.

3. To provide training on methods used to investigate differential diagnostic and management of acute febrile illnesses (i.e. dengue, leptospirosis, chikungunya) that are prevalent in both countries.

4. To foster collaboration between both students for the conduction of multicentre studies addressing the management of acute febrile illness (i.e. malaria, dengue, sepsis).
