Assessing the feasibility and effectiveness of community case management of malaria (CCM-malaria) for all ages in Madagascar
Objectives
The objectives of the study are to evaluate the effectiveness of extending community case management of malaria to all age groups to increase access to prompt, appropriate malaria diagnosis and treatment; and demonstrate its feasibility and cost-effectiveness in moderate to high malaria burden settings.
Evidence is needed in order to support decisions on whether and when to direct resources to extend CCM-malaria to all age groups. In addition, Madagascar, Malawi and other countries considering expanding treatment to all ages need a better understanding of the resource requirements, as well as the potential impact on access to treatment, in order to guide programmatic decisions. The results of this study will provide recommendations for program managers and other decision-makers considering effective strategies to implement and scale-up CCM- malaria.
