AREF Call for Applications: Grant writing training opportunity
Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) is calling for applications for a Grant writing training addressed to scientists who are active, emerging biomedical and health researchers from African countries.
Date: 18 -31 March 2027
Location: Online
The training will be in French.
Eligibility:
To be eligible, you must provide evidence of the following:
- Be a national of a French-speaking African country and be fluent in French; or
- Be a national of any African country and have French as your native language or be fluent in French, even if you are not from or a national of a French-speaking country.
You must be at an early stage of your research career, having completed your research training.
Either:
- You have been awarded a research doctorate (PhD, DPhil, or MD) from a recognized academic institution, normally within the past six years (i.e., awarded on or after 1 January 2021); or
- You hold a medical or clinical qualification plus a research-related master’s degree, both normally obtained within the past six years (i.e., awarded on or after 1 January 2021).
And:
- You are currently employed in sub-Saharan Africa by a recognized university and/or a specialist research institution.
- You have not previously participated in an equivalent training course on proposal development or grant writing.
- A significant part of your current role involves developing and conducting health research.
- You do not already hold a substantial portfolio of international research grants with a combined value of £250,000 or more.
