The 2021- 2025 Sierra Leone National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan (SLNMESP) presents a substantial scale-up of critical interventions, drawing from evidence-based and the experience in previous years. The plan gives direction towards the improvement of the health status of the Sierra Leone population and the fight against poverty by reducing malaria disease burden. The strategic plan, which spans over 5 years, seeks to lay-out the foundation for eliminating local transmission of malaria and the reduction of malaria-related deaths.

Vision: Accelerate the implementation of Malaria Control Interventions towards a Malaria-free Sierra Leone.

Mission: To direct and coordinate efforts towards a malaria-free Sierra Leone through effective partnerships.

Goal: By the end of 2025, contribute significantly to the improvement of the well-being of the population by reducing the malaria burden

Objectives:

  1. By the end of 2025, reduce malaria mortality rates by at least 75% compared to 2015.
  2. By the end of 2025, reduce malaria case incidence by at least 75% compared to 2015.
  3. By 2025, 90% of the population practice at least 3 recommended malaria prevention and control behaviours.
  4. To strengthen malaria surveillance and use of malaria information to improve decision-making for programme performance.
  5. Ensure timely and adequate supply of quality-assured malaria commodities to public and private health facilities at all levels by 2025.
  6. By 2025, strengthen and maintain capacity for programme management, coordination, and partnership to achieve malaria programme performance at all levels.
  7. Improved mobilization of resources and maximize the efficient use of available resource for greater public health impact by 2025.
