Plasmodium and malaria: experimental chemotherapy, control and immune response mechanisms
Objectives

This study aims to search for drug prototypes based on a screening using medicinal plants and also to evaluate the anti-Plasmodium activity of synthetic compounds and seaweed extracts. It also aims to evaluate the immune response profile in patients and in a murine experimental model (P. berghei).
Malaria is the most frequent parasitic infection in the world, and causes 1 death every minute, mainly in children in Africa. Human infection is mainly caused by Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax and P. malariae.
