Development of electrochemical sensors based on biomarkers for malaria detection
Objectives

The development and availability of devices capable of performing a reliable, simple and fast diagnosis is necessary, so this project proposes the use of sensors for the direct detection of specific malaria biomarkers such as the protein histidine 2 (PfHRP2) and lactate dehydrogenase (PvLDH).
Malaria is a parasitic infection that affects 97 countries and puts half of the world’s population at risk. The diagnosis of the disease is carried out by recognition of microscopic systems and rapid immunochromatographic tests, whose performances are variable and depend on environmental, human and methodological factors, in addition to requiring qualified and trained professionals for the reliable detection of parasites.
