Wellcome Sanger Institute Journal Club: Malaria Genomic Epidemiology

The Wellcome Sanger Institute Journal Club on Malaria Genomic Epidemiology is back for 2025. This month, the webinar will discuss a recent pre-print on the genomic diversity of the African malaria vector Anopheles funestus.

Dr Marilou Boddé and colleagues sequenced and analysed the genomes of 701 specimens collected over 90 years from across sub-Saharan Africa as part of the MalariaGEN Vector Observatory. The evidence published in a pre-print shows high genetic diversity in An. funestus and strong signals of insecticide resistance were detected across multiple populations.
