APMEN TechTalks webinar “Targeting Mobile and Migrant Populations to Prevent Malaria Reintroduction”
The Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network (APMEN) are delighted to extend a cordial invitation to the upcoming APMEN TechTalks webinar titled “Targeting Mobile and Migrant Populations to Prevent Malaria Reintroduction“. It is organized by the APMEN Surveillance and Response Working Group.
As malaria programs move towards elimination, adapting surveillance and response systems is crucial due to changing epidemiology and clustered reservoirs of infection. Identifying high-risk populations, such as mobile and migrant populations (MMPs), is vital as their behaviors contribute significantly to sustaining transmission and pose challenges for reintroduction following elimination. This webinar will delve into the challenges and successes of adapting surveillance strategies to effectively track MMPs, especially in geographically clustered areas like international borders and forest regions where malaria foci persist. From examining the connection between imported and indigenous cases in Nepal, to implementing the grid-based surveillance strategy along the Yunnan-Myanmar border, to conducting proactive case detection by Mobile Malaria Workers in Cambodia, join us to explore how tailored interventions and innovative surveillance approaches play a crucial role in the global effort to prevent malaria reintroduction and achieve eradication.
