Malaria Genomic Epidemiology Journal Club: Combined drug- and diagnostic-resistant malaria parasites

Malaria Genomic Epidemiology Network (MalariaGEN) is inviting registrations for the 3rd session of the Malaria Genomic Epidemiology Journal Club on combined drug- and diagnostic-resistant malaria parasites.

Malaria parasites in Ethiopia are developing resistance to drugs and diagnostics. This may have severe consequences for malaria control and elimination in Africa.

• Abebe Fola – a post-doctoral researcher at Brown University and the first author of a recent paper in Nature Microbiology paper, Plasmodium falciparum resistant to artemisinin and diagnostics have emerged in Ethiopia. Abebe will be addressing the results from his recent research, and will be discussing malaria parasite population genomics, drug and diagnostic resistance surveillance, and state-of-the-art Molecular Inversion Probes (MIPs).
