Workshop: Gene editing and regulation in protozoan parasites and their vectors
The Wellcome Centre for Integrative Parasitology (WCIP) and the Global Health and Tropical Medicine, Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (GHTM/IHMT-UNL), are happy to invite you to a workshop titled “Gene editing and regulation in protozoan parasites and their vectors“. This workshop will take place in two parts.
1. A 2-day webinar:
Date: October 27 – 28, 2022
Location: Online (Zoom)
2. A 3-day in-person hands-on session:
Date: October 31 – November 2, 2022
Location: Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Portugal
This workshop aims to:
- Align academic research with industry requirements to enhance translational research potential
- Share the latest advances on gene editing and regulation in protozoan parasites, as well as their vectors
- Enable the development of novel tools and approaches to better understand host-parasite-vector interaction
- Challenge an interactive discussion between participants and speakers, towards advancing the field.
Webinar topics:
- Biology of pathogen/vector contributing for disease
- Importance and challenges of the disease
- Challenges and peculiarities of genome, genome stability, mechanisms of DNA repair, gene expression and regulation
- Preferred gene editing tools for dispensable and essential genes
- Transfection methods and available selection markers
- Case studies and applications
- What is missing for field progress.
