SNSF Call for Applications- Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials (IICT) 2022

For the eighth time, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is launching a call for Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials (IICTs). The special programme supports clinical trials on underresearched topics that meet medical as well as social needs. Though important for patients, these topics remain outside the industry focus. 

Eligibility:

  • IICT studies should generally involve more than two centres. In special cases, studies may involve only one or two centres, provided the applicants can show that the trial cannot be carried out successfully as a multicentric project.
  • The trials must be initiated in Switzerland and coordinated by a Swiss group.

Included:

Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) such as:

  • Treatment trials. 
  • Prevention trials.  
  • Screening trials.
  • Diagnostic trials.
  • Quality of life trials.
  • Adaptive trials (i.e. platform trials).  
  • Repurposing trials.
  • NEW: Replication trials with significant knowledge gain.

Excluded:

  • Studies conducted for directly commercial purposes.
  • Non-randomised and uncontrolled studies.
  • Pilot studies.
  • Proof of concept studies (phase I and IIa).
  • Studies with safety endpoints only.
  • Observational studies.
  • Preclinical studies.

Funding details:

  • A maximum of CHF 5000 can be requested as support for the involvement of patient and public involvement (PPI) representatives in preparing the application.
  • Funding period is limited to 60 months, including a potential preparation phase.
