- Prof Kamini Mendis (University of Colombo, Sri Lanka). Professor Mendis is a malariologist, formerly of the Global Malaria Programme, World Health Organisation, Geneva, and currently Professor Emeritus, University of Colombo. She is an expert in research, control and elimination of malaria, and her contribution to research and public health is widely acknowledged globally. She played a key role in the certification of malaria elimination from Sri Lanka.
Abstract:
Key factors which contributed to the success of malaria elimination from Sri Lanka will be described from the speaker’s experience as both a researcher and a policy maker. The role of research in malaria control and elimination, and factors that influence getting evidence from research to policy and practice will be discussed.
