NIH Call for Applications: Harnessing Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DS-I Africa) – Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications Research

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has an open call on Harnessing Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DS-I Africa): Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) Research.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to support research on the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) associated with a new program entitled Harnessing Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DS-I Africa). The goal of DS-I Africa is to spur new health discoveries and catalyze innovation in healthcare, public health, and health research on the continent through application of data science.

A primary goal of this FOA is to explore the ELSI issues impacting data science for health research from an African perspective and contribute to the policy discussions of such on the continent.

Eligible Organizations:

Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Institutions), specifically:

  • African Public/State Controlled Institutions of Higher Education
  • African Private Institutions of Higher Education
  • African Nonprofits Other Than Institutions of Higher Education

African applicants may propose partners from all types of organizations in Africa, the U.S., or other countries, including for-profit and government entities.

Foreign Institutions

  • Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Institutions) are eligible to apply.
  • Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are eligible to apply.
  • Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statementare allowed.
