NIH Call for Applications: Translational Research in Maternal and Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has opened a call on Translational Research in Maternal and Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Pregnant women and children are populations with dynamic physiology and pharmacology at increased vulnerability to drug toxicities. Physiological changes during pregnancy may affect the functions of different organ systems and increase the risk of pregnancy related conditions/complications and aggravate pre-existing conditions in pregnant women which require pharmacotherapeutic intervention.

Purpose:

  • encourage applications that will perform basic, translational and clinical research;
  • advance the understanding of underlying mechanisms of drug action;
  • discover and develop novel therapeutics;
  • enhance the usage of existing drugs or drug repurposing for safer and more effective treatment for pregnant women, lactating women, neonates and children.

The overall goal is to improve drug safety and efficacy for maternal and pediatric precision therapeutics.

Applications should address research topics relevant to NICHD’s strategic plan Theme Five on advancing safe and effective therapeutics for pregnant and lactating women and children which is outlined in the link:? NICHD Strategic Plan.

*Letter of intent should be sent 30 days prior to application receipt date.
