Assessing community-based reactive case detection and treatment of P. falciparum and P. vivax malaria in high risk populations

Objectives

This study aims to assess a community-based reactive intervention for P. falciparum and P. vivax malaria in high risk populations from Thailand and Laos.

Study Design

• Arm 1: Routine community based intervention.
• Arm 2: Reactive Case Detection (RACD) by Village Malaria Workers (VMWs)/Community Volunteers using highly-sensitive RDTs and Standard RDTs to target groups. G6PD testing will be performed to P. vivax cases.
• Arm 3: Focal Mass Drug Administration (fMDA) preceded by G6PD testing.

– Baseline and midline formative assessment: including key informant interviews, focus group discussions and mapping.
– Midline and end-line cross-sectional surveys using Standard RDTs, highly-sensitive RDTs and dry blood spot collection for PCR.
