- Does antimalarial treatment of asymptomatic school-age children decrease the prevalence of malaria infection compared with placebo or no treatment?
- Does antimalarial treatment of asymptomatic school-age children decrease the prevalence of anemia compared with placebo or no treatment?
- Does malaria transmission intensity explain variation in the protective effect of antimalarial treatment among asymptomatic school-age children against malaria infection and/or anemia?

Rationale and Abstract
Multiple studies have shown high prevalence of malaria, largely “asymptomatic”, in school-age children in sub-Saharan Africa. Studies assessing the impact of treating asymptomatic school-age children either in schools or in communities have had mixed results. It is not clear if this variation is due to the details of the interventions or the transmission intensity of the study site.
