Further development of simulations of Plasmodium falciparum interventions and their integration with the needs of stakeholders II

Objectives

This project supports the development and use of mathematical models for predicting the effects of different malaria interventions. It is centred on contributions to the multi-group Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Malaria Modeling Consortium (MMC). Some additional specific areas are the analysis of threshold conditions for persistence of malaria, of residual transmission, of prioritization and targeting of interventions, and modelling of surveillance-response systems.

Rationale and Abstract

One important tool used in the project is the OpenMalaria open source (C++) microsimulation platform. This software, developed by Swiss TPH, provides a general platform for modelling impacts on transmission and disease of different curative and preventive intervention strategies against Plasmodium falciparum (and P. vivax) on transmission and disease, considering different deployment options, and detailed product profiles.

This is the follow-up project of Further development of simulations of Plasmodium falciparum interventions and their integration with the needs of stakeholders.
